Planning a wedding in Italy while living abroad is already complex enough. This is true whether Italy is your chosen destination or your home country and you are returning to celebrate with family and friends. Your photographer should make the process easier, not add more work.
Venues, catering, flowers, guests and appointments often need to be coordinated remotely and across time zones. A beautiful portfolio is not enough: you also need clear communication, reliable agreements and a process that works without frequent in person meetings. Just as importantly, the photographer’s style should match the experience you want, not an editorial trend that does not feel like you.
The practical challenges of planning remotely
A quick first reply followed by weeks of silence can create unnecessary stress. Before booking, it helps to understand how the photographer communicates and what their normal response times are.
The agreement should also be precise: what the coverage includes, how schedule changes are handled, whether travel and accommodation are included and when the photographs will be delivered.
What to ask before booking
Ask whether the photographer has worked with international couples, how decisions made during video calls will be summarised and what the contract says about changes or unexpected events.
Delivery times, file format, online gallery duration and travel costs should all be clear before signing.
How I organise the work remotely
We meet by video call, discuss the wedding and the people who matter most, then confirm coverage, timings and agreements in writing.
Before the wedding I collect the information I need and, when useful, coordinate directly with the venue or planner. I study the spaces, logistics and light in advance so the day can flow naturally.
Local knowledge reduces uncertainty
I am based near Varese and regularly work across Milan, Como, Lake Maggiore and Lake Como, as well as elsewhere in Italy. Knowing the area helps with travel, timing, light and unexpected changes.
Language and booking times
Communication and planning can be handled entirely in English or Italian. A video call before booking gives us time to answer questions, view a complete wedding story and understand whether you want the same natural, documentary approach, focused on people and real moments rather than staged scenes.
For weddings between May and October, especially at sought-after venues, booking well in advance is common. If your date and venue are confirmed, it is worth checking availability early.
